Ultrasound.... Its a....

Well, we had our scan this afternoon and we are having a little sister for Miss Daisy!

Another precious baby girl!! My nub theory was right!!

Praise God she's growing healthily and will continue to do so.

To Do This Week :: well, that's if she naps!

So it's Tuesday already! And we have our 19 week scan this afternoon!! Oooo!! The gender will be revealed! Can't wait! :)

Crazy schedules this week might limit craft but I vow they won't stop it altogether!! - limited, especially as Miss Daisy has not gone down for a nap two days in a row!

Last night I cut most of my fat quarters for the fat quarter swap! Can't wait to send them off and await my parcel in return!

Puzzle Play - Toddler Play

Another activity we've been doing lately is playing with puzzles!

Miss Daisy enjoys playing with her puzzles and has become quite proficient in naming the animals/characters and returning them quickly to their places!

So I thought I'd make it a little more difficult!

Mummy's Day Out! Op Shop Hop!

So Miss Daisy went to Grandma's for the day on Wednesday! It's grown to be a weekly ritual which is loved by all three of us!

This time I decided to head out to a few op shops in the hopes of finding some vintage threads for the FQ swap I've signed up for. And boy did I ever!

Three Blogs For A Thursday #7

I've been looking around the blogosphere lately and finding some great Australian blogs. Quite exciting as it makes the people I'm networking with seem closer... although I love hearing from and learning things from people across the world! That's the exciting thing about the internet I guess.

Anyway, here are three great blogs for this Thursday that I've been LOVING reading through! They're all AUSTRALIAN blogs to celebrate AUSTRALIA DAY - 26th January 2012!

Head over and take a look and say hello!

I've linked you straight to their caravan makeover but the whole blog is delightful! I love love love it and pinned it on my inspiration board for our new home!

Super delightful blog with lots of cute sewing things and just all round lovely! Soft spot with me because they also have a German Shepherd!

A beautiful blog. Lots of Aussie op shop goodness and other lovely things along the way.
I also love Em's new rule for her iPhone!

Happy Thursday and Happy Australia Day.
I'd love to know what you're reading this week! :)
Please share any new favourite blogs in the comments! :)

No Need To Knead - Easy Bread Making

I posted about the amazing WHO bread from Soule Mama a while ago... we've made it a few times and mummy, daddy and Miss Daisy enjoy it thoroughly each time! I also love that it's the 'acoustic' method - no need for a bread maker!

18 weeks today!

I'm 18 weeks pregnant today!

Can't believe how quickly this pregnancy seems to be going! Next week we have our latest ultrasound scan and will find out the gender of our little bundle! We'll see if my nub theory prediction is correct or not!

12 week ultrasound scan - baby #2
Regardless of the babies gender we will be excited and happy to know our unborn child a little better! (And I'll be happy to have one more unknown ticked off at this busy time in our lives!)

Playing with Rainbow Rice

I showed you how we made some Rainbow Rice here

Now I want to show you how we play with it! That's the fun bit! Although Miss Daisy thoroughly enjoyed making it too... not sure if mixing the rice or licking the vinegar off the spoon was her favourite part!

It has been a great way to give Miss Daisy some independent play outside whilst still being a fairly quiet and 'sit down' activity on these hot days. It would also be a great winter or snow day play activity!

I've only used about 1/4 of each batch of rice. I'm storing the remaining rice in chinese takeaway containers and her current 'play' batch is in a plastic tub with a secure lid.

I let Miss Daisy choose some things from the Tupperware cupboard and we took them outside. I have a wonderful plastic mat that makes cleaning up at the end really easy.

It's given us the opportunity to use lots of new words and talk about things like under, over, full, empty, on top etc. As well as talking about colours and textures

Have I mentioned I love this Rainbow Rice thing!
I think perhaps I could just love this Toddler Thing! :)

Let me know if you make any! I'd love to hear your creative play ideas with Rainbow Rice!

Best Friends & Flowers

I have a friend.
She brings me sunshine.
And flowers!
She is strangely intuitive and decidedly pushy when it comes to 'are you okay?'
I love her.

I remember swapping gerberas from the florist in highschool. So I sat one alone by my bed. No glitter though.

The others make me smile by the door.

Stop in with your two bright eyed kids anytime.
Bringing kiddy pasta and flowers is entirely optional!

Love you.

Making Rainbow Rice

So I've found myself frequently on Pinterest (you can follow me here!) lately! Mostly because hubby and I are sharing one computer and he's usually on it! So my iPhone allows me to blog, facebook, instagram and browse pinterest... amongst other useless games etc!

Looking for ideas for play/education for toddlers I found this pin for some Rainbow Rice and thought I'd give it a shot! A cheap alternative to sand or water play. Easy to store and fairly mess free!

Keep reading to find out how you can make some Rainbow Rice!

Mummy Date

Daddy has been working super hard around the house in preparation for our big move (not sure if I've mentioned that around here... it will be mentioned soon!)

Exciting, busy and slightly stressful times!

So yesterday Miss Daisy and I baked a yummy chocolate cake and then went to the library and the park.

Recipe: My Granny's Chocolate Cake

It's no secret that I like to bake! And Miss Daisy is fast adopting a love for baking herself!

This morning we made my Granny's Simplicity Chocolate Cake from a little church recipe book my mum gave her in 1984!

When my Gran moved into a nursing home last year a lot of her things were sold at a garage sale... Rummaging through the books as we set up for the sale I grabbed this recipe book at the last minute! I love that it has her notations through it!
Here is the easy recipe for a deliciously moist chocolate cake!

Tutorial - Easy Pants or Shorts for Boys or Girls

It's been a little while since I've done some sewing that wasn't for a paying customer or a gift... so I decided to sew Miss Daisy a little pair of light summer pants! And just had to add ruffles to the bottom!

I've been hitting the local op-shops a little more of late. It's been a few months since I've gone and I was pleasantly surprised. Miss Daisy was delighted to find some 'licensed' toys that were from programs on TV and books she's been reading! All for 50c or $1.00, a fraction of their original price I'm sure!

Oh, and I found myself the most delightful knitted blanket, ready for our move soon to a slightly cooler climate! It made a lovely addition around the campfire on our recent camping trip!

Easy Peasy Travel Game

This activity I saw on Pinterest amongst some busy bag ideas. It is super easy to make.

You will need:
One small container (reuse one from butter, nuts etc)
Sharp knife/scissors
Pom poms

Basically what you see is what you do!
Cut a small hole in the top - it should be slightly smaller than your pom poms. Then you're read to play!

Great for sorting colours, counting and grouping objects!

Hand painted Story Stones - Imaginative Toddler Play

You might remember for Miss Daisy's first birthday her very talented Aunty from over at Paint on the Ceiling made her these fabulous blocks!

Image credit: Paint on the Ceiling
Well her talents don't end with building block puzzles, these amazing story stones were Miss Daisy's gorgeous handmade Christmas gift for 2011 and she can't get enough of them!

Silhouette and Shadow Play

This morning Miss Daisy (18mo) and I wandered into the kitchen to get her bottle.
It was 6:30am - a little earlier than usual and the sun was lower and really shining brightly through the kitchen windows.

Miss Daisy noticed her shadow on the pantry and said, "Scarlet" like she would when looking in a mirror. I decided to use this opportunity for some fun play and a little lesson on the sun and shadows!

{Scavenger Hunt Sunday #11}

I often start Scavenger Hunt posts with "it's been awhile!" Well, it has! We've got a brand new baby in the house! Our Canon 60D... we've also got a brand new baby on the way in June for those who've vistited in the past from Ashley's weekly link up! Exciting times in 2012!

Looking forward to linking up more regularly with Scavenger Hunt Sunday again! And perhaps enlisting my hubby's help as he seems to hold the camera more often than I do at the moment! :)

Hope you've had a lovely holiday with your family! Welcome to 2012!

Here are my interpretations for this week... I've used photos from the last few weeks of our holiday season!

{One Colour}
These were taken on our 4x4 trip to Stockton Beach in Northern NSW. Amazing 32km of white sand to play on! What a wonderful day! The monotone and glare is like being at the snow!

This was a hard one (especially since I left it 'til the last minute!) These are from my iPhone of the laundry liquid I've been making... you can read about it here! :)

From Stockton Beach we headed into the Wattagan National Park. These puddles were nearly empty after the 3 cars in our group ran through them! :)

{One Dozen}
I love sneaking Miss Daisy into each Scavenger Hunt and wasn't sure what I could fit into 'one dozen'. So here is a baker's dozen of our latest shots of Miss Daisy! She's growing up every day! Bittersweet!

Luckily there was a nice soft landing underneath! She really hung on tight though! :) This was New Year's Eve waiting for the fireworks at 9pm!

Thanks for visiting! :) I love reading your comments and will come and visit your blog too! :) Have a lovely week!

Ever heard of the 'nub theory'???

So a friend of mine who is also pregnant told me about something called the 'nub theory'.

Babies between 11-15 weeks have a genital nub that points in a particular direction if they're a boy or girl! Boys point up (go figure!) and little girls' nub tend to sit at a parallel line to the spine.

Well, it's got me super curious as to whether we could predict the gender of baby #2 from our 12 weeks ultrasound!!

What do you think?

Haha! Hopefully the incessant amount of pink doesn't sway your opinion.
I think it's a girl if I've picked the right spot for the nub!!! But who knows!?! All a bit of fun!

Let me know your theory! And do you think I've pinpointed the 'nub'?? I think the really strong white part sticking up is a leg bone... hubby would like to think it's a boy!! ;)

Now just to convince my DH to find out the gender at our next scan at the end of the month!! :)

PS. Yay for feeling HEAPS better in the 2nd trimester! :) Nearly 16 weeks! :)

UPDATE: We were right!! It's a GIRL (2nd ultrasound)
UPDATE: Ivy Joy enters the world (Birth story/photos!)

Product Review and GIVEAWAY : Nature Babycare Nappies

Being a full time cloth nappy user is great 99% of the time.

However, as a family we enjoy getting away in our 4WD and doing camping holidays. This makes it a little bit difficult to store, wash and dry our cloth nappies on the go, particularly if we're out bush. I hate making that trip to the supermarket and buying a box of 'that brand we all know' just because it was the best value for money. (Yes, it's probably your brand, I know!)
I open the box and inside the plastic vacuum sealed package they smell of plastic or some other mix of unknown chemicals.

The picture below is an illustration of the nappy waste generated by a single baby over two years! Wow! I'm so glad we're not contributing as greatly to this mess!

Every disposable nappy used since their invention in 1951 is still in our landfill and will continue to be for some time!

I was pleased to find an alternative to 'that brand'!

Read on to find out more and to win some of this fabulous nappy brand to try for yourself! :-)
